Welcome to the family

Updated: Jul 22

Today I was excited to welcome Oriana (Jersey Caramel) to the family. Oriana came to us from Bellellen Rise Clydesdales who are our friends and neighbors.

Oriana's sire is Bellellen Rise Rain Maker and her Dam is Sarabri, a Quarter Horse x Stock Horse.

As Oriana was bred just 10 minutes away, I have been able to visit her and be part of her life in a small way while she was still with her mum and during weaning.

Today she was delivered by her breeder, Michelle, and it was an absolute testament to the work that Michelle puts into her horses to see her walk calmly off the float and into her new yard.

Oriana has been introduced over the fence to her new herd and has been very calm, quietly eating and drinking and talking to her new herd.

My plan will eventually be to introduce her to ridden work in a few years. In the meantime, she will adjust to the new ebb and flow of life at Bellview Connection and learn the life skills that will help her in the future.

Over the next two weeks, it will be interesting for the client to observe how she interacts with the herd and then help her gain confidence around new people.

As owners, we have the responsibility of teaching our animals to be "good citizens", that way if anything happens to me, my herd may find a new home as they are safe and easy to handle.

What are your thoughts on this? 🤔
